Paramount Pictures just released the first trailer for Top Gun: Maverick, and like most reboot fare, the hero, Captain Pete Mitchell, once again played by Tom Cruise, returns along with his trusty sidekick—the F-14.

The trailer doesn't really show us much: just a scene between Cruise and Ed Harris talking about Maverick's stubbornness to not die. The rest is filled with Cruise riding motorcycles and pulling off some impressive flight maneuvers with what looks like a few callouts to the original 1984 film (I think we glimpsed Goose?).

But the stars of the trailer are the planes. While Cruise is known for doing his own stunts—and he did indeed fly aircraft for the film—the U.S. military doesn't let citizens fly the F/A-18 so that particular piece of hardware was off limits. Personally, we're most excited about Cruise's old warhorse—the F-14 Tomcat—which makes a quick appearance even though there are very few of these (very badass) planes left outside of Iran.

We might be a bit worried that Top Gun: Maverick won't hold up to the original—but at least the planes look cool.

Top Gun: Maverick is out June 26, 2020.
