Nintendo, surrogate parent of your youth, and for a few of you, adulthood, has made a killing in recent years by tapping into that nostalgia by way of its NES Classic and SNES Classic consoles—miniature versions of the originals, with the same classic controllers and most importantly, the same games. It was only a matter of time until the Nintendo 64 got a classic makeover of its own.

Digital Trends reports that Nintendo recently filed a new trademark application for the N64 console, controllers, and games. For those unfamiliar, the 64-bit console included fan favorites like Super Mario 64, GoldenEye, Banjo-Kazooie, and The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time.

The application is no guarantee until the gaming giant makes it official, but with E3 (Fashion Week for gamer geeks) coming up in June, the timing definitely sets the stage for a big announcement.

For those of you still looking to get your hands on the 8-bit original (without paying after-market prices), Nintendo has already announced that it's re-releasing the NES Classic on June 29. Game on.
