Man Wearing TV on His Head Leaves TVs on Neighbors' Porches

An unknown person has captured national attention by leaving old TVs on random porches in a Virginia neighborhood.
Even more bizarre, the person wore a TV on their head to obscure their face while delivering the the TVs.
No one was harmed during the TV deliveries.

In a weird turn of events, but somehow perfectly fitting for this precise moment in time, more than 50 people in Henrico County, Virginia recently woke up to find vintage tube televisions on their front porches. And the person who left the TVs delivered them while wearing a vintage tube television on their head, because sure, why not?

"It was very Twilight Zone," Jeanne Brooksbank, a lucky TV recipient, told The Washington Post.

A stranger coming onto your property to leave something there is plenty creepy on its own. Even creepier was the ritualistic manner in which each TV was placed, facing the front door. But local police deemed the occurrence an "inconvenience"—we would've gone with
"sacrifice," but whatever—and said that besides it being mildly annoying (it is a pain to get rid of those things), there was "no credible threat to residents."

But the mysterious tube man (or woman?) didn't act alone. The police told The Washington Post that the delivery person had an accomplice, and he or she also wore a TV that hid their face. Because anything else would've been sloppy.

So the victims are safe, but what about the TVs? Well, police used a waste department truck to collect the sets, which Henrico County will recycle. As of now, the sacrifice was limited to just one night, but the police encourage residents to speak up if it happens again. Here's to hoping.

In the meantime, if you're still binging Netflix on a bulky TV set, you can take it to Best Buy for recycling, although the store does charge a $25 fee for TVs. You can also call 1-800-GOT-JUNK, but again, the service has a disposal fee.

Just don't toss the tube. Because TVs contain components and chemicals that need to be disposed of safely, you shouldn't leave it on the curb with your other trash—or on your neighbor's porch.
