We're pretty open about our love of vans around here. We're also big fans of ice in our drinks. Put the two together and you've got a winning combination. Although the 1984 Toyota Van's straightforward name lacked imagination (we prefer the more apropos Space Cruiser moniker it had in Europe), the futuristic family hauler was an all-around oddity. A cab-over design, the rear-wheel-drive van featured an engine mounted under the passenger compartment. To access the 90-hp 2.0-liter four-cylinder, you just lifted the driver's seat.
Then, of course, there was the icemaker. An option in the LE trim, a shoebox-size refrigerator was cooled with air-conditioning refrigerant lines and came with spill-proof ice trays. Toyota replaced the Van with the Previa in 1990, but, sadly, the new Hot/Cool Box was available only in the European versions. We're not sure why. They don't even like ice over there.
